The Eye of Joe Okwesa- photography exhibition
The NDC'S new community centre, THE hub will be the venue for the upcoming photography exhibition by a Newham resident, Joe Okwesa.
Okwesa says: " I consider myself an artistic photographer and I hope this exhibition will inspire the youths in our community. I want to inspire the young people to develop their sense of creativity and to make them aware of what photography is all about."
Okwesa is a commercial photographer and the founder of Zebralens Photo Agency which is located at the THE hub. He also runs an extensive photo library that operates worldwide providing images for major international companies and advertising agencies. His photographs have been used in the music industry to design cd covers and appeared in many magazines. He has also photographed celebrities and models at London Fashion Week, Royal Ascot, Salon International and The Alternative Hair Show. His collection includes photographs of Prime Minister Tony Blair, members of the British royal family, African lifestyle and portraits of prominent personalities.
He developed his interest in photography by attending Kilburn Polytechnic followed by a diploma from the New York Institute of Photography. His first professional experience was at the Central Office of Information (COI).
Okwesa is an African photographer and yet at the same time a
Londoner and his photography reflects this bicultural perspective. It is this
unique perspective that gives Okwesa's work its peculiar identity, one that
stands out from the crowd.
